Voters within the Village of Grand Rapids either have received or will receive notifications via mail about polling location changes for future elections.
According to the flyers, residents in Grand Rapids will now vote at Otsego Elementary School at 18505 Tontogony Creek Road in Tontogany. Prior to the change, the Grand Rapids Fire and Rescue station on Wapakoneta Road in the village served as the polling place for the area.
Towpath Media reached out to the Wood County Board of Elections to inquire about the reason for the change. The board of elections sent the following reply:
We have consolidated 3 (Grand Rapids, Haskins, & Tontogany Legion) polling locations into 1 (Otsego Schools) for several reasons.
Fewer poll workers will be needed
Elementary school is newer and complies with all ADA standards
They are not charging us to use the location
Parking is better (larger lot, more handicap spaces, closer to the entrance, etc.)
According to the "Find My Polling" feature the change will take effect with the August 8 special election.

I don't agree with the decision to change the polling place from Grand Rapids. People of Grand Rapids have had a place to vote forever. To change it now makes it more difficult to vote.
